Snow covered mountains, Rocky landscapes, tall trees, Narrow roads with steep twists and turns, a scary River beneath the deep ditch flowing by the side, Yaks, wild rabbits, Romance, Adventure and what not? All these elements delineate this beautiful valley situated in the embrace of the Himalayas known as Manali. Manali is situated in Himachal Pradesh, India at a distance of about 538 kilometres from Delhi, the national capital of India, 309 kilometres from Chandigarh and about 40 kilometres from Kullu, the neighbouring District where nearest airport ‘Bhuntar airport’ is also situated. Best time to visit Manali is throughout the year but if you want to see snow then one must plan a trip somewhere between the end of November to March. The temperature in Manali remains between 21 degree Celsius (70 Fahrenheit) maximum to -5 (23 Fahrenheit) degree Celsius.
When we were young Kullu -Manali used to be the most popular destination among the honeymooners. But when I actually visited the place I apprehended that there is so much to do around here, much more to explore than just honeymooning. Manali is actually a complete package for travel enthusiasts. This heavenly valley of Himachal Pradesh gives you multiple whys and wherefores to make you pick out this place as your next travel destination. Here is a list of myriad things one could do in Manali:-
1.REKINDLE THE ROMANCE
Struggling to find time to spend with your loved one? Yearning for a romantic vacation? Planning your honeymoon? Manali might be your ultimate elucidation. Do nothing just plan a relaxed laid back trip to this place, book a luxury resort facing river Beas and rekindle or may be initiate the journey of love towards your partner. There is literally ‘Love is in the air’ when it comes to Manali. Once you enter this place you will irresistibly feel romantic.
Now that is something drastically opposite to the above-mentioned option. But yeah! along with all the romance and passion Manali offers you to choose from a wide variety of adventure sports from the likes of Paragliding to zip lining and few others too. If you are a trekking Lover you can go for Trekking as well.
3.GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR SPIRITUAL SIDE
There are multiple temples, monasteries and hot water springs to reawaken the spiritual side of yours. One can:-
- Visit Hidimba temple
- Vashisth Village
- Take a dip in hot water springs
- Visit nearby monasteries to take a closer look at Buddhist culture
- Visit Arjun Gufa (cave)
4.CHILL OUT BESIDE THE RIVER STREAM AND ADMIRE THE SPLENDOR OF NATURE
Now this is one of my most favourite things to do in Manali. This beautiful town is host to Beas river stream. Do nothing just relax and unwind on multiple cafes situated on the stream, Have lip-smacking MAGGIE and smoke. Chill out beside Beas River, Just sit there and observe the amazing beauty of nature. Have time for some self-analysis and thank god for giving you this opportunity to visit this heavenly place. Some awesome cafes are situated on Manali-Kullu highway and near Mandi. Do make it a point to visit them.
5.EXPERIENCE COUNTRYSIDE WAY OF LIFE
There are various heritage resorts and home stays situated in nearby villages of Manali which offer you a complete countryside experience. You can stay in any of these and have a closer look at ‘Himachali’ lifestyle. If you are someone who loves to observe new things then you are surely going to cherish this experience.
6. GET HIGH AND RELAX
Oh yeah, this is one thing Manali is famous for. Although Manali has something so soothing in its environment that as soon as you reach Manali you will feel high but you can get High other way round too. If you know what I mean ‘wink wink’. So, just sit back, do nothing and soothe yourself.
If you consider yourself adventurous enough then you can go for paragliding in Solang valley. Fly high in the sky and embrace the beauty of Solang valley and Manali via a paraglider. It is very safe and will give you an adrenaline rush you would dredge up for your whole life.
One could do white water River rafting in Kullu. It would cost you around 750 rupees per person and if you book the whole raft for your group then somewhere around INR 3500. Try to get the rafting booked by certified agencies only.
9.RIDE A BIKE TO SOLANG VALLEY/ROHTANG PASS
This is one thing every adventure lover must do in Manali. Take a bike on rent and go on a ride to Rohtang pass situated at a distance of about 50kms. If that is way too far for you considering the dangerous way at least go for a bike ride up to Solang valley. Rent for a bike costs you around INR 1000 to 1500 for a motorbike and INR 700 to 1000 for a scooter.
Guys do your research on trip advisor and go for some cafe hopping . There are some very good cafes situated in old Manali. Although I didn’t like the food much but the seating and ambience were amazing I must say. My personal favourite was Café 1947.
11.TAKE A QUICK DRIVE TO NEARBY AREAS SUCH AS ‘KASOL’, ‘MANDI’, ‘PANDOH DAM’
One more advantage of Manali is that there are numerous gorgeous places situated near Manali. Few of them being, Kasol situated at a distance of about 80 kilometres, Kullu situated at about 40 kilometres, Pandoh dam situated at about 50 kilometres from Manali. You can take a quick day trip to all these places.
12.DO NOT MISS OUT ON TYPICAL TOURISTY STUFF
For me, My trip never completes without doing famous touristy activities of that locale. Along with all the amazing things mentioned above the pure joy of being a traveller doesn’t get completed unless one doesn’t go for the typical touristy rituals. Few of them to do in Manali are:-
a) Get yourself clicked on a Yak
It is sure going to be a hell lotta fun. Go for this Change of ride for once.
b) Get a shot with wild rabbit
Because they are cute as hell.
c) Become ‘Himachali’ Bride/Groom
Get dressed up in traditional ‘Himachali’ attire and get yourself clicked. Himachali garb is so damn beautiful.
You can shop from a wide range of woollen stuff from mall road.
