Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya arrested but soon released on bail!
Ex-Business tycoon and defaulter Vijay Mallya was arrested in London today but was let off within three hours of arrest. Ex- Director of Kingfisher Airlines is being wanted for Loan Fraud and money laundering. Nevertheless, The government is counting this arrest as a step up in the efforts to get him extradited to India.
“Vijay Mallya was arrested on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud”
The Scotland Yard said in a statement. On the other hand, Vijay Mallya tweeted that
“Usual Indian media hype, Extradition hearing started in court as expected”.
India is lobbying hard to extradite the liquor baron who lived a lavish life. Vijay Mallya fled India a year ago when attempts were being made by the group of banks to recover around Rs 9,000 crore in loans to his now defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had personally intervened in this regard and made a stern appeal to British Prime Minister Theresa May during his visit to Britain in February.
As reported by CNN-News18.
Although this step is seen as a big win in case of Vijay Mallya with many hoping that the businessman will be extradited soon but it is not that simple as it looks like. An Indian extradition request for an individual resident in the United Kingdom needs to surmise almost seven stages. The process is lengthy and includes the question of a death penalty and human rights as well.
