Mommy stared at her for a while & bent on to her, she thought mommy might be placing a kiss on her forehead like she always does. But! No, it was not a peck of affection which she was placing but her death. That little soul being so naive could never figure it out that why her mommy did this to her. After all, she was in the most secure and guarded place, In her mother’s embrace.

She mercilessly stabbed her delicate neck with that knife and there was an outpour of blood. But she was still alive so her dear mommy slashed her neck two more times. Too helpless to protest or shout that little baby girl gave up & was no more.

Like everyone else I wondered why her own mother killed her child? Becoming a mother is one of the most cherished parts of life. It is touted as a woman’s greatest achievement. She endures gut wrenching pain to bring a little creature out in this world. But this mother was different, Although she wanted to nurture and bring a new life into this world but with terms and conditions. T & C being that the little creature should be a boy. This incident clearly proves how obsessed our society is with the male gender. A lot of our elders want their son or daughter’s first kid as a boy, not a girl and even and let me tell you even umpteen number of young couples also ruminate the same. Although they do not want strictly a boy but they prefer their first kid to be a boy. I have seen a lot of my educated friends saying ” Yar, First kid should be a boy and then we will see about the second one. “

You might think  this is a mere exaggeration of the scenario but no it is not. Tell me Don’t all our elders wish married couple to have a son soon?  ” Putravati bhav ” to be more precise. I have never ever seen a mother in law blessing their kids to have a daughter, “Putrivati bhav“. Although exceptions might be there but still this is pretty much the common mindset even today in the twenty-first century. Moreover, if we contemplate at the situation in rural areas and small towns, It is even worse. Still daughter in laws are being tortured for not reaping a son,  Only a few incidents come to light. Rest all are buried under the name of family’s honour. This incident was another horrific example of our society’s obsession with having a boy. The culprit in the case belonged to a well to do family and there was no dearth of money or anything. But still, I couldn’t absorb the fact that how can a mother kill her own daughter ? If such things keep on happening with girls there will be no girls and only a male dominated society. The need of the hour is to stop women being an enemy for another woman, rather start taking a stand for each other.

The irony of the world is, In developed countries and high strata of society so called feminists are fighting over issues such as a right to express their nude body or breastfeeding in public whereas in real world girls are not even allowed to take birth or even if they do they are killed so barbarically. It is high time we start focusing on more important issues and at least provide the girls with the basic right to live.

He said no to a “Girl Child”

They said no to a “Girl Child”

Wonder is even SHE said NO to a “Girl Child”
It’s really pathetic to know even in today’s era, a woman herself is the most cruel enemy of another woman.
Time for women has come to stop being pseudo feminist and stand strong against all social injustice another woman is going through.

    Fantastically written..

this is harsh truth of our society, that we want a boy as child no one understand if there is no girl then boys does”t has the power to look after an infant in his body. only girls can do this. recently i read an article about indian society and i confronted some facts which are horrible.
    1 gender ratio 940;1000
    2 rape= in every 25 minute
3 highest malnutrition children in our country
    4 girls are not safe
5 most dowry cases register in india.
there is so many facts which denote that why these type of things happening in our society. may god bless her in heaven and punish her mother till death. how could a mother do this ? this is the marquee question. may i will get the answer by someone who is more practical than me but i could”t believed till now a mother did this with her own daughter. even when there is no financial problem and all.
